Mirko Wormuth joins nHack to expand in DACH region
Mirko Wormuth joins nHack
nHack is proud to announce that Dr. Mirko Wormuth has joined nHack as a Venture Partner in charge of the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Holland). Mirko is a 20+ year Beijing resident, Harvard Law School educated lawyer and retail entrepreneur. Mirko is based in Beijing and will focus on scouting promising tech startups in Germany, Austria and Switzerland as well as developing local corporate and institutional partnerships for nHack in those countries.
Given nHack's strong China and Asia platform, we have experienced strong interest from Germany for a while. With this move, the "n" in nHack has developed from "Nidelva" to "Norway", then "Nordics" and now "Northern Europe". We are also keen to see how Mirko can help our Nordic portfolio enter the DACH region, in cooperation with our partner Danske Bank.
Mirko was born in East Germany where he left after the country's reunification to study law in Hamburg. After nine years of legal study, three law degrees and a book on China’s emerging Bankruptcy Law, he started to work as an associate lawyer for Freshfields, a large UK law firm with offices in China only to discover that being a lawyer is the last thing he wanted to do. To the dismay of his mum he left law practice behind and jumped into the ocean - as the Chinese say when someone starts his own business. In January 2006 Mirko and his wife Tina co-founded TWICE Fashion Accessories. TWICE is China’s first and still to date only affordable luxury fashion accessories chain store concept. Mirko has recently moved into a chairman role at TWICE while Tina is still involved in day-to-day operations of the company. In August 2016 he co-founded, with Marco van Eersel, OmniChannel China, a consultancy with offices in Beijing and Amsterdam that offers strategic market entry advice to European and North American brands for online and offline retail solutions. In the end of 2016 Mirko also co-founded with three old China entrepreneur friends an advisory business "GRW China" focussing on Chinese outbound investments in Europe and North America working mostly with sell-side mandates.
If not in the office, Mirko is spending time at home and in nearby Chaoyang Park with his wife Tina and their two sons Magnus and Linus and their daughter Nailah. He is also an avid sportsman with a long history in semi-professional competition in soccer and tennis since his early childhood. He's a passionate runner and has participated in international triathlons in New York and Beijing.
Mirko was a member of the Beijing Chapter of global entrepreneur network EO from 2008-2016. He served on the board of the local EO Chapter as President, Learning Chair as well as Membership Chair. Coaching young and aspiring entrepreneurs is one of his passions.
